Suontaka Viking Sword

This is a reproduction of the original Suontaka sword that was excavated from a woman’s grave in Finland. The grave was dated 1100AD, however the swords form itself suggests and earlier date of origin. It would not be unusual for a sword like this to be a family sword which had been buried with it’s final heir. This stunning version of the famous viking sword features a highly detailed knot work pattern throughout the pommel, guard and grip with additional bands and inserts. The sword comes complete with a rich leather scabbard and matching with equally detailed fittings while sporting a baldric for wearing this powerful sword. All of the sword and scabbard fittings have been lavishly plated in a rich copper.

Forged for Function

Although this historical sword is aesthetically stunning it was forged to function. The blade has been hand forged out of tough and resilient 1065 high carbon steel capable of holding a very sharp edge. The blade typical of it’s era has a deep wide #fuller designed to lighten the blade without compromising its strength. The blade is expertly tempered and has a full tang which is an extension of the blade that is traditionally peened over the pommel. Comes factory sharp.
