Castillon sword, 15th C (based on type XV.8) This is modeled from one of the 80 swords found in 1973, in a crate in the remains of a barge sunk in the River Dordogne Near Castillon, Northern France. The sword is a part of a private collection. There is no clarity of the period of the sword, having said, Oakeshott believes the sword to be between c.1420-1450. There is a boldly-struck smiths mark on the blade. The sword has a Straight tapering with diamond cross-section and a sharp point. Many Type XV fall within the terminology of swords commonly called “bastard” or “hand-and-a-half swords” in reference to the longer grips that allowed both one and two handed use. Deepeekas replica comes complete with a scabbard, has a full tang, and is heat treated to a Rockwell of 48-52.
